Russian goalkeeper Safonov may be unable to transfer to Paris due to unpaid alimony.
Just learned from Russian media Championat that the transfer of Matvei Safonov to Paris Saint-Germain has become complicated in the past few hours.
Reportedly, this is not due to failed negotiations with his current club, FC Krasnodar, but because of a delicate off-field situation. While FC Krasnodar accepted an offer of 18 million euros plus bonuses, the Russian goalkeeper's personal issues have affected the deal. Safonov's financial situation is quite delicate, as he owes over 600,000 euros in alimony to his ex-wife.
This debt has restricted his movements, preventing him from leaving Russia. This makes the transfer rather complicated, requiring him to be in France to complete the deal. After passing a medical in Paris, a five-year contract is set to be officially signed on June 10.
After the friendly match against Belarus, Safonov was asked about this matter but refused to disclose details, only saying, "I will not comment on my potential transfer to PSG. If it happens, you will know."
Any restrictions on his movements could not only delay the transfer negotiations but potentially cancel the deal. Therefore, PSG must closely monitor Safonov's legal issues and personal situation to determine if the transfer can still proceed.
